Stacking the Shelves 51

STSmall_thumb[2]
Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews, every Weekend. This is to share books I have acquired from various sources. Physical books & ebooks both are welcome. If its something being sent to me by mail, I will not mention it until I actually receive it.

So this post is actually for TWO WEEKS (plus a bit from three weeks ago as Blogger and I were not on friendly terms while creating my last STS post)!  I was unable to post last weekend as I WAS GETTING MARRIED!!!  So now things are going back to normal.  With books streaming in at all angles.  So here we go!  Be forwarded, it is a lot!

The Whispering Skull (Lockwood & Co., #2)In the six months since Anthony, Lucy, and George survived a night in the most haunted house in England, Lockwood & Co. hasn't made much progress. Finally, in a fit of anger, Anthony challenges his rival to a contest: the next time the two agencies compete on a job, the losing side will have to admit defeat in the Times newspaper.

Things look up when a new client, Mr. Saunders, hires Lockwood & Co. to be present at the excavation of Edmund Bickerstaff, a Victorian doctor who reportedly tried to communicate with the dead. Saunders needs the coffin sealed with silver to prevent any supernatural trouble. All goes well-until George's curiosity attracts a horrible phantom.

Back home at Portland Row, Lockwood accuses George of making too many careless mistakes. Lucy is distracted by urgent whispers coming from the skull in the ghost jar. Then the team is summoned to DEPRAC headquarters. Kipps is there too, much to Lockwood's annoyance. Bickerstaff's coffin was raided and a strange glass object buried with the corpse has vanished. Inspector Barnes believes the relic to be highly dangerous, and he wants it found.

Shadow Swarm Aberthol Nauile doesn’t know that he once led legions in a war that had raged since the dawn of time, against an enemy that could not be killed. He doesn’t know that he rode on a dragon with his father, or that his mother died while giving birth to him. He doesn’t know that he once saved his great, great, great grandfather by defeating the black enemy on the slopes of a volcano.

Aberthol doesn’t know that he beheld the creation of the world, as his grandfather eight generations before took the planet, ravaged by a war of the gods, and began anew.

All he knows is that he awoke in a coffin deep within a tomb, and now the whole world thinks he is their savior. All he really wants to know is his name, and why he keeps hearing voices in his head.

FeudsFor Davis Morrow, perfection is a daily reality. Like all Priors, Davis has spent her whole life primed to be smarter, stronger, and more graceful than the lowly Imperfects, or “Imps.” A fiercely ambitious ballerina, Davis is only a few weeks away from qualifying for the Olympiads and finally living up to her mother’s legacy when she meets Cole, a mysterious boy who leaves her with more questions each time he disappears.

Davis has no idea that Cole has his own agenda, or that he’s a rising star in the FEUDS, an underground fighting ring where Priors gamble on Imps. Cole has every reason to hate Davis—her father’s campaign hinges on the total segregation of the Imps and Priors—but despite his best efforts, Cole finds himself as drawn to Davis as she is to him.

Then Narxis, a deadly virus, takes its hold--and Davis’s friends start dying. When the Priors refuse to acknowledge the epidemic, Davis has no one to turn to but Cole. Falling in love was never part of their plan, but their love may be the only thing that can save her world.

  18. Congratulations on getting married! :) You have a big haul there. From the blurbs, I think I also want to read Perfected, Feuds, The Zombie Chronicles and What She Saw. They sound interesting. The Kite Runner is on my TBR. Hopefully, I will be able to read it soon. :) Enjoy your day! :)

  21. Oh my goodness, Jay! That's a whole lotta books! Congratulations on your wedding, I wish you happiness and love with your chosen one :)

I also have The House of Four Winds, but I haven't started it yet. I just requested Feud this week, because it looks awesome :) And I loved The Kite Runner, it's a pretty tough story to read, though, both sad and hard.

Thanks for stopping by earlier. Happy reading.

  24. I've read Perfected and had mixed feeling about it - it was a bit slow in the beginning, but I loved the 2nd half! Hopefully you enjoy it! Feuds & Beneath look great, and I'm extremely interested in checking out The Young World, it's sounds like it could be a great dystopian!
