Arc August 2014 Commitment

ARC August 2015

I SO need to participate.  I am way, way, way behind on my review books.
Allow me to explain.  1-I have a lot of  series' I had already started way before I ever started blogging.  Looking back, I should have finished a few of those first.  When I get too many series' going at once, it is easy to forget the details of another series if it has been a long time since you have read it. Now I must admit blogging has also helped with that so long as I write a review right away.  Regardless though, between novels and mangas I easily had over 50 series I was already in progress with.  Then I start blogging and getting ARCS....That meant more #1 in a series often times.  Especially being a fantasy fan and fantasies almost always have more than one book to them.  So I have become overwhelmed with series' on my platter so I keep trying to catch up on a series but by doing so I fall behind on my review stack.

Second problem I hit.   When I started blogging, a few other bloggers informed me that when I request an ARC from Edelweiss or Netgalley that as a new blogger I would be lucky to get 1out of 20 requests.  So I requested A LOT of books thinking I would get a decent amount.  HAH!  I think I got more like 9 out of 10 requests!  So I then ended up with a lot. In June I finally made a spreadsheet.    I learned that between all the books I was approved for over the past year totaled well over 400 books (between Edelweiss, netgalley, surprise mailers, First Reads wins, requests from other sources, tours, etc)!!! Yikes!   My ratio at Netgalley was horrible (under 50%)!  Why was I being approved for more?!  I felt I should be banned from the site until I get caught up. Even at a book a day I was in trouble!   Mind you I have read a decent share of these titles but nowhere near enough that I am in good standing on reviews.  Still am but I am working on it.   I have a battle plan that has been making me some headway.  Yet still more books keep coming that I itch to get my hands on.  At least my self control is getting better on asking.

Yet with all that, even though I am making headway I am still WAY behind on my reading!
So my plan for August is to alternate.  1 review book for 1 book I have on my series' reading list.  This plan excludes young children's reading books for the kids!

GOAL: 10 ARC/Review titles MINIMUM -if I cannot do this I am not allowed to ask for a single book for review for 6o days!
Unless I can do  at least 15 Arcs/review titles then no requesting more for 30 days!
This means if I fail-no entering giveaways, no Netgalley, Edelweiss, tours, NOTHING.  I have do discipline myself to get through what I have.

This is to ensure I read more!  Wish me luck!

Here are some titles that I might get to reading or finishing (although a couple MIGHT be done in the next couple days) during August.  Please note this title choices can change!  I will try to post regular progress posts to let everyone know how I am doing!

  1. Best of luck! I'm on schedule with the tours that I am signed up for, but I'm with you on Netgalley. My ratio is horrible because when I first signed up I was approved for way more than I thought I would be. Then by the time I read them, in between tours, they were gone off of Netgalley and I couldn't leave a review.

Now I keep a google calendar just for my reading. I schedule a book a day, cuz I'm crazy like that, or an insomniac and I read until 2 or 3 in the morning and then get up at 6:30 with the kids, go through emails, do any blogging I didn't do the night before. I put the netgalley ones on my calendar as soon as I receive notice that I am approved, all of my tours go in blue, blitzes and cover reveals in red, and it is the opening page on my phone so I always see what is due over the next few days. It's the only way I can keep track of it.

  2. Sooo many awesome books you have there! I've already read Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and absolutely loved it. Actually, I loved every single book I've read by her so far. Happy reading! :)

  3. That's a lot of books; which one do you want to read the most?
