Stacking the Shelves 55 & Giveaway!

STSmall_thumb[2]

So this week involved a new experience for me.  Sometimes working at the library has unexpected consequences. Like coming in to learn it is Kid's day and Marie Callendars donated a bunch of cream pies for the kids to have fun with us on. All my life until this point I had easily managed to avoid such a thing as a pie in the face. No more! Although I must say, the banana cream pie is quite tasty! At least I didn't have to clean up the leftover mess in the conference room!

Bookwise this week, I was a bad, bad girl....  I meant to be good.  But failed something grand with a round of applause from my hubby that followed.   Purchases, swaps, freebies, review titles, etc.  I got a bunch of unexpected arrivals and gifts.    Now this is not from my biggest haul but it is good sized. And LONG with adding summaries  And when I am trying to catch up, it does not help.  Luckily most are for fun reading... But for the next several weeks I must behave!  More reading and a lot less collecting!!

Normally with a haul this size I just post pics but I figured lets make this the longest post yet on this blog!  So here they are!
In no particular order....

If I Break (If I Break, #1)  This is not your typical happily ever after...

Lauren Brooks wants to do three things: Escape the small town she grew up in, get accepted to her dream school in Chicago, and graduate without drowning in debt. Now she’s working her ass off to do just that.

With a full course load and a waitressing job at one of the hottest night clubs in Chicago, she does not have time for distractions;namely ones who only want to get into her pants. She’s been burned before.  Only a fool goes for a second round.. With just two semesters left until graduation, everything’s on track.

Until she meets Cal. Enter distraction.

At six-foot-two, with ebony hair, deep grey eyes, and a smile that could only hide an agenda, she knows he’s trouble. And for the first time in her life, a little trouble might be just what she needs.

No what she wants.

It isn't like she’d ever marry the guy.  Until she does.

What she thinks will be her happily ever after, is only the beginning.  Cal has a secret. One that makes loving him come with a price, and being his wife cost more than she bargained for.

The Gathering Storm (Wheel of Time, #12; A Memory of Light, #1)  Tarmon Gai'don, the Last Battle, looms. And mankind is not ready.

The final volume of the Wheel of Time, A Memory of Light, was partially written by Robert Jordan before his untimely passing in 2007. Brandon Sanderson, New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn books, was chosen by Jordan's editor--his wife, Harriet McDougal--to complete the final book. The scope and size of the volume was such that it could not be contained in a single book, and so Tor proudly presents The Gathering Storm as the first of three novels that will cover the outline left by Robert Jordan, chronicling Tarmon Gai'don and Rand al'Thor's final confrontatino with the Dark One. This short sequence will complete the struggle against the Shadow, bringing to a close a journey begun almost twenty years ago and marking the conclusion of the Wheel of Time, the preeminent fantasy epic of our era.

In this epic novel, Robert Jordan's international bestselling series begins its dramatic conclusion. Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, struggles to unite a fractured network of kingdoms and alliances in preparation for the Last Battle. As he attempts to halt the Seanchan encroachment northward--wishing he could form at least a temporary truce with the invaders--his allies watch in terror the shadow that seems to be growing within the heart of the Dragon Reborn himself.

Egwene al'Vere, the Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai, is a captive of the White Tower and subject to the whims of their tyrannical leader. As days tick toward the Seanchan attack she knows is imminent, Egwene works to hold together the disparate factions of Aes Sedai while providing leadership in the face of increasing uncertainty and despair. Her fight will prove the mettle of the Aes Sedai, and her conflict will decide the future of the White Tower--and possibly the world itself.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The Wind Through the Keyhole (The Dark Tower #4.5)In The Wind Through the Keyhole, Stephen King returns to the rich landscape of Mid-World, the spectacular territory of the Dark Tower fantasy saga that stands as his most beguiling achievement.

Roland Deschain and his ka-tet—Jake, Susannah, Eddie, and Oy, the billy-bumbler—encounter a ferocious storm just after crossing the River Whye on their way to the Outer Baronies. As they shelter from the howling gale, Roland tells his friends not just one strange story but two . . . and in so doing, casts new light on his own troubled past.

In his early days as a gunslinger, in the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death, Roland is sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a “skin-man” preying upon the population around Debaria. Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, the brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter. Only a teenager himself, Roland calms the boy and prepares him for the following day’s trials by reciting a story from the Magic Tales of the Eld that his mother often read to him at bedtime. “A person’s never too old for stories,” Roland says to Bill. “Man and boy, girl and woman, never too old. We live for them.” And indeed, the tale that Roland unfolds, the legend of Tim Stoutheart, is a timeless treasure for all ages, a story that lives for us.

Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best friend is conscripted into the army she gambles everything to win his freedom. A twist of fate leads her to the royal palace itself, where, in front of the king and all his nobles, she discovers a power of her own—an ability she didn't know she had. Except . . . her blood is Red.

To hide this impossibility, the king forces her into the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks her new position to aid the Scarlet Guard—the leaders of a Red rebellion. Her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting prince against prince—and Mare against her own heart.

Obsidian (Lux #1) Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

A Slip of the Keyboard: Collected NonfictionTerry Pratchett has earned a place in the hearts of readers the world over with his bestselling Discworld series - but in recent years he has become equally well-known and respected as an outspoken campaigner for causes including Alzheimer's research and animal rights. A Slip of the Keyboard brings together for the first time the finest examples of Pratchett's non fiction writing, both serious and surreal: from musings on mushrooms to what it means to be a writer (and why banana daiquiris are so important); from memories of Granny Pratchett to speculation about Gandalf's love life, and passionate defences of the causes dear to him.

With all the humour and humanity that have made his novels so enduringly popular, this collection brings Pratchett out from behind the scenes of the Discworld to speak for himself - man and boy, bibliophile and computer geek, champion of hats, orang-utans and Dignity in Dying.

In a Class By ItselfOne of romance's most beloved authors, Sandra Brown creates love stories of unsurpassed passion and emotion. Her "larger than life heroes and heroines make you believe all the warm, wonderful, wild things in life" (Rendezvous). Now, the author of more than thirty-five New York Times bestsellers delivers a powerful, erotic, and deeply moving tale of a woman reunited with her first and only love--a man who wants what she denied him ten years ago.

Dani Quinn walked into her high school reunion with dread and anticipation. She knew Logan Webster would be there, and she had no idea how she would react the first time she saw him. She had left both Logan and the small Texas town years before. Her departure had been abrupt, painful, and not of her choosing. She'd never had the chance to tell Logan the truth. After all these years, she wasn't even sure he was interested in hearing her side of the story. She had come to the reunion to prove to herself that she wasn't afraid to see him again. And to ask him for a favor.

Handsome, charming, and dangerously charismatic, Logan has grown into a man who exudes all the power and confidence of a self-made success. He listens as Dani describes her work for Friends in Need, a charitable organization that raises funds for mentally and physically challenged children. He is attentive as she explains the foundation's hope that he will donate one of his properties for a much-needed summer camp. Then he suggests a shocking proposal of his own. A coldhearted "business" deal that conceals a hurt that Logan has never gotten over.

Frightened by her own feelings for Logan, hoping to heal the pain she has caused him, Dani agrees to his unconventional terms. What she never expects is the chance that their love will be rekindled. But it is not that simple. Once again Dani is forced to leave Logan without so much as an explanation. For unbeknownst to Logan, Dani has passed through a heartwrenching tragedy that has changed her life forever, and where she must go not even he can follow.

So I have a challenge for YOU.
GIVEAWAY TIME!!!
Leave a meaningful comment on this post regarding these books.  Telling me which look interesting, which you've read/what you think of them.  Any that you plan to get or add to your lists, etc.  With this many books there should be SOMETHING to get your attention.
I am looking for well thought comments.  Not generic copy and pastes or a "Enjoy all your books," "Wow, that is a lot,"  "Never heard of any of these," etc.  I left summaries for that reason to make viewing easier.

A randomizer will be used to pick a comment and as long as that is meaningful and pertaining to THESE books you can win!!!
The Prize?  Any book you want from The Book Depository, up to $12!!
Challenge ends August 9th 11:59 pm PST
Please leave an email so I can contact you if you win!

Also, be sure to check out my other giveaways!

  2. i'm always devasted when an author pass away before finishing a book it's something so personnal it must be hard ( and rarely a success) to be able to complete and finish it for the chosen author author... i guess that if they were friends and worked before together it's easier as they could have shared wants and ideas... i haven't read Brandon sanderson yet so i don't know his style of writing at all , not that i know Robert Jordan's either but from the covers of their books that i saw here and there they perhaps had similar tastes. i would not mind trying some of their series but i'm not sure which one ( perhaps not teh common one though)

I've read bitten!!! i really love Kelley armstrong writing style and in this series elena is teh character i prefer so bitten was one of my favourite^^ i really hope you will enjoy it as much as i did. ( there are novella too if you enjoy the series ^^)à i' missing only the last 2 books i tyhink? but up to where i read i loved . Everey book ort so the main character change however you still have news or see of the past one so the link isn't cut off and that's what i prefered

thank you for this new giveaway

    1. I have yet to read Brandon Sanderson either. I have heard good things about him so I hope he does the ending justice. It is a tearing fact. You want the ending to a story but the idea of someone else with a different style taking over can often be more frustrating than not. But I am hopeful!

I have a few Kelley Armstrong books but haven't read any of them. Just a few of the anthology stories. I am so pathetic but hopefully I can remedy that soon!

  3. It's never a bad decision to buy books. Well, scratch that. If you're in debt, stop! :P

I also went a little bit crazy this week with the Harper Teen ARCs on Edelweiss. I can't stay away from them. I have this fear they're going to disappear if I don't send them to my Kindle the moment I spot them.

I started reading Red Queen(even though I told myself NOT to read 2015 titles). It's a bit weird-mix of fantasy and modern day with people watching 'gladiator' battles on screens. Kind of weird if you ask me.

Have fun hanging out with Daemon and Katy. Hope you don't end up sexually frustrated because of their crazy, steamy scenes. ;)

Oh, you also got a Brandon Sanderson book. One of my friends recently finished 2 of his book and has been nudging me to read them as well but I'm not sure I'm up for that challenge yet. I can barely finish a 400 page long book, let alone something over 1000.

    1. Debt? No. Lack of space and incredibly long TBR? Yes.

While I am excited for Red Queen it is going to be a bit longer until I read it. I have enough older titles to avoid the 2015 releases a bit longer :)

I get intimidated by books over 700 pages. Especially it it is a series.

  4. I am the most interested in Liars, INC. It has a really interesting cover which I think as someone pointed out to me is symbolic of the book itself. So definitely looking forward to that one. I hope you enjoy Obsidian as I had really liked it but i am yet to read Origin. I have read some really good reviews of Barry Lyga's books so hope you enjoy them!

  7. WOW! Great haul! Yay for Obsidian and Bitten! I LOVE those two!! Obsidian as you may know is a fave among bloggers, since the heroine is a book blogger! Loved that about her! She's spunky too and oh Daemon is nice! Really wish I was a teen so I could fantasize about him more! At least I have Clay from Bitten! He's more age appropriate! Love the Otherworld series and hope you do too! The series (all 13 books) is incredible! Definitely one of my most faves! Although I haven't read all the novellas and the Subterrean press ones--those are hard to get to apparently!

Lots of these are new to me but glad to see you got a variety! Curious about Red Queen! Would've requested that too, but EW rarely approves my requests anyway, so I don't go crazy with my requests there. But it did catch my eye, cause I like the creepy cover!!

Hope you enjoy all your reads!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT day!

  8. I absolutely love seeing manga in the Stacking the Shelves posts, makes me want to get back into reading them but I haven't the time. Especially Skip Beat. I started reading it after watching the anime, but I haven't found the time to get back into reading the story. Great haul this week!

  9. Wow, awesome haul! I wasn't overwhelmed by the final WOT book or the Dark Tower novella, but Darth Plagueis and The Trench look great.

Here's how I've Stacked the Shelves this week.

    1. I was so excited to find Darth Plaqueis! I have been lloking for awhile to find one at a good price with no luck. I hope Brandon Sanderson does okay ending wheel of time but I know it went downhill after the sixth volume already.

  10. Oh, I'm so jealous you have Red Queen! It is seriously one of my high-priority books; I want it so badly! Gah, why does the publication date have to be March? I also have Sweet Unrest and I'm really excited to read it. And Liars, Inc. That one looks good too! Even though I haven't read The Art of Lainey by Paula Stokes yet, I still want it. Looks like a great haul! I hope you enjoy all of these books. :)

    1. The cover caught my eye but the summary made it a must read! Winter People was a cover nab I must admit. The Spiderwick books are much shorter than I expected but still eager to read them. The movie was fun.

  13. Red Queen looks great. I love the cover and the plot sounds like something I'd love. I snagged Obsidian recently too. It's about time- I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't read anything by JLA! Happy reading. My STS.

  14. I've been bad lately too! I bought a lot of books and downloaded quite a few review copies this week. Red Queen and Liars, Inc. were two that I got. They look amazing! I have to admit, Red Queen's cover is what makes me want to read it. That and the fact that it's fantasy makes it irresistible. I loved The Art of Lainey, so I'm very excited to read Paula Stokes' new one.

I'm not that familiar with most of the books you got, but Obsidian is really good! Sweet Unrest looks pretty good, and so does Barry Lyga's series.

Good luck with behaving with behaving for the next few weeks. I'm trying to do the same. :D Enjoy your new books!

  17. I have watched and own the Skip Beat anime so woo hoo for a feature. Have never tried the manga because I am a little scared of having to buy so many volumes lol. I hope they'll continue the anime series though. It's a lot of fun. I love Ren loads!

    Thanks for sharing these!
