In honor and in memory of author Terry Pratchett- Giveaway

Sir Terry Pratchett
Sadly, grand author Sir Terry Pratchett has passed away this week.  He was a favorite of mine, with his DiscWorld series.  A wonderful mix of comedic parody and fantasy that no reader should miss and unfortunate that there will be no more of.

  1. I hadn't heard of his books before yesterday. I feel so bad because I looked them up and they sound like the perfect books for me! I plan on buying The Color of Magic. There are way too many holds on it right now at the library. I'm glad he's getting so much recognition. As someone who grew up with family members with Alzheimer's I know that he would have loved the attention to his books and all of the awesome twitter love he's receiving after his death.

  2. I read one of his books years ago. I really liked it. It's such a sad thing when a great talent like that dies. =(

  9. I was so shocked to hear the news. I mean, I knew he was ill and had read the beautiful article Neil Gaiman had written about him, but I hadn't realize how bad his health was. I hope he's found some peace now.

    1. From this same article, I read that Terry Pratchett was upset for not being allowed euthanasia. In many ways, I can understand his view. This man had built his entire life on his brain power and his brain was the very thing that was failing him. Terry Pratchett had it the hard way during his last years. At least now his pain is over.

  10. I've not read anything by him before, but all I can think is how great of a tribute this is to him. Sharing his work with others even after he's passed. He must've had a huge following from what I've seen on social media :) The closest I've come to reading something like his work is probably in a Neil Gaiman novel, or maybe Brian Rathbone's Call of the Herald books. Or maybe similarities to Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising stories, since I read on his Goodreads profile about his Discworld series being written for children. Would love to win and grab a book or two of his to try :)

  11. I have read the Wintersmith which I enjoyed, but just haven't quite managed to read anymore yet, but I am going to. I know he is one of THE GREATS and will be severely missed.

  14. I've only heard about him today. Now I know he was an English author of fantasy novels, especially comical works. He was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s.

  15. I had read some of his DiscWorld books when I was a teenager, but not so much lately, but I enjoyed his humor and I know that many other authors (like Neil Gaiman) that I read were inspired by him. I was very sorry to hear that he suffered for so long and I found his partner's tweets very moving. I hope he has finally found peace.

  17. Terry Pratchett is one of those authors that I have heard so many amazing things about but have not actually read any of his books. I am definitely going to start reading his DiscWorld series though.

  18. Terry Pratchett is one of my top all-time favorite authors. I mean, I have an entire shelf just dedicated to his books. For those just starting out, I highly recommend Monstrous Regiment, Guards! Guards!, or Witches Abroad. His work isn't something you read quickly, and you might not like the first book of his you try, so give another one a chance. It's so, so worth it.

And I still get teary thinking that he's gone. :(
