Official Synopsis:  Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.

But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.

Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought.

Review:  When I first started this, I did not like Eadlyn's character.  She took some time to grow on me.  But she does, in her own way.  As the future  queen, and daughter of the beloved Maxon and America, she has a lot to live up to.  The people are still unhappy with their lives and she it told to host a Selection as a distraction so her parents and officials can hopefully find some solutions.  She wants nothing to do with the boys that show up and boy does it show!

Her choices include, a sweet tailor, a crazed wacko, money-hungry mongrels, a family friend and one who doesn't even speak the same language! Plus several others. How she deals with some of these guys is fantastic, other times cringe-worthy.  I really liked the different dynamics of the guys.  They really shine through on the pages.

I love Eadlyn's family!  Especially her younger brothers.  Oh, I wanted more with them involved!
Lots of returning characters from the previous Selection, including Aspen Ledger, Marlee, Lucy and a couple others.  Loved it!

While I was unsure in the beginning, watching Eadlyn evolve and mature ans the situation allowed impressed me and drew me in. At first she rubbed me in all the wrong ways.  I even briefly questioned why I continued reading it.  Yet story depth is added and her character does learn.  While she is a spoiled brat, it is in a very naive, unknowing way.  Once she gets a glimpse of how others see her, she starts to change and that really appealed to me.

Now with some obvious flaws, one might wonder how I rate this book so high.  This book gives me all the happy feels!  It is a guilty pleasure read.  It is better than a great sugar high! I feel a part of the story.   It is one of those rare books, that despite its issues, I cannot help but love.  I eagerly await the final book!

  1. I finished this last month. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I love the transformation Eadlyn makes throughout this book. I can't wait to see her really shine in the next one.
