  1. The best has to Warm Bodies even if it was a bit different and the worst has to be Beastly
by Alex Flinn! I was so looking forward to it and to this day cures it.

  2. Two worst movie adaptations: Beastly and the Golden Compass.
Two best were Gone with the wind and the 7th Harry Potter. Thank you for the giveaway!

  3. Best: Battle Royale, LOTR
Worst: honestly can't think of one where I've also read the book :P

    ReplyDelete
  4. Some of the best book to movie adaptations: The Silence Of The Lambs, The 39 Steps, and The Road.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The best: Perks of being a Wallflower, Love, Rosie, Devil wears Prada
Worst: Vampire Academy, and I really can't think of another one.

  6. For me I would say the best is Of Mice and Men and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And worst is Blood and Chocolate; I might have thought the movie was maybe ok on it's own had I not read the book. Seemed like they just borrowed the names of the characters and the theme of the book for that one, and decided to change everything.

Hmmmm. I don't really rank adaptations, so this is a tough question. Off the top of my head now . . . The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is (one of) the best and The Fountainhead is (one of) the worst.

    Thanks for the giveaway! =)

  9. Best: Cloud Atlas, Harry Potter series, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, LOTR, Hobbit, Gone Girl, and The Martian.
    Worst: Eragon, and Vampire Academy.

Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  10. The Stand by King and Harry Potter series are the best. The Mortal Instruments just did get it for me in the theater but I did like the book.

  11. "Memoirs of a geisha" would be my DUO choice. I love Halloween and Christmas themed movies. My kids are just about old enough to break out "Gremlins." Thanks for this. abrennan09@hotmail.com

  12. Best: Harry Potter and LOTR
Worst: The Great Gatsby and Alice in Wonderland

    ReplyDelete
  13. Best: Chronicles of Narnia (specifically "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and Lord of the Rings (specifically "The Fellowship of the Ring") - honorable mention to Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Worst: The Stand by Stephen King (Frannie was a total miscast and if it weren't for Gary Sinise playing opposite her I wouldn't have bothered) and I'm going to get stoned by I'll say it anyway....Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I hate the casting of both Jamie and Claire and I really, really, REALLY hated how the show makes it seem like Claire had a great love with Frank Randall. She did not.

  18. Nick Hornby's HIGH FIDELITY and FEVER PITCH were great adaptations, as was BEEFCAKE by F. Valentine Hooven. I was disappointed by the movie version of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim books...

  20. All the Harry Potter movies set the bar pretty high for the good category! And I thought The Help was a pretty good adaption as well. I think Eragon was one of the worst adaptions I can think of recently.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Best: Harry Potter movies, Perks of being a wallflower, memoirs of a geisha, LOTR, the book thief.
Worst: vampire academy, hunger games, divergent, eragon, beautiful creatures.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought The Perks of Being A Wallflower very much captured what I felt while reading the book, and probably my favorite book adaptation ever is the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, it helped I think, that it was a miniseries, so fewer scenes had to be cut from the book in order to fit the running time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love Anne of Green Gables. I think it's helpful when the actors are not the same celebs that are in a million other movies.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Best: The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Pride & Prejudice
Bad: City of Bones, Vampire Academy

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Best movie adaptation was the 1963 Robert Wise film of THE HAUNTING.
The Worst was the other movie version of THE HAUNTING.

Worst: City of Bones and Twilight series.

  28. Oh! Best would be Harry Potter and The Polar Express! Worst...not totally worst but could've been better (I still enjoyed them) was Where the Wild Things Are and Maze Runner.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I loved The Hunger Games, LOTR and Narnia. I thought they were perfect and pretty close to the books.
The worst was the Harry Potter movies. The first two were OK but it went downhill after that. They changed everything form the books! And the Twilight movie was pretty bad too.

  30. Best= The Notebook, Where the Red Fern Grows
    Worst=Gone Girl, Alice in Wonderland

  31. Best....both from Stephen King...Misery and The Shawshank Redemption. Another would be The Green Mile. I don't know about worst since, if I didn't like the book, I didn't watch or want to watch the movie.

    1. One bad adaptation that comes to mind is The Golden Compass. It was an excellent book. I'm sure there are worse books-to-movies, though.

  36. There are lots of great movie or tv adaptations of books. And some not so great ones. The ones I am enjoying a lot right now are Outlander and Poldark. Both are great, and the follow the books pretty closely. And of course Lord of the Rings was a great adaptation as well.

I wasn't thrilled with the changes to the third Harry Potter movie. They left out some of my favorite parts.

  48. There are so many great adaptations, I am a huge Stephen King and the books were amazing and intense but i think they did a really good job at adapting The Stand and The Langoliers. I actually found for not so good adaptations to be Breakfast at Tiffanys and Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, they did get better with the latter books but felt the first one fell short.

  61. Two of the best adaptations were Pay It Forward and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

    ReplyDelete
  62. One of the best adaptions was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Peter Jackson handled the movies with so much care and passion. On the other hand, I thought the Hobbit was one of the worst! I don't understand why a 300 page book needed three bloated movies! Another great adaptation was The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I had read the book when it was first published, so after I saw it I read it again and remember why I loved it so much. Another terrible adaptation was The Mortal Instruments. The book had such great world building and the movie was so awful I could not even finish watching it!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Gone with the Wind and The Notebook have to be among the best :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. best harry potter, lord of the rings - regnod(at)yahoo(d0t)com

    ReplyDelete
  65. A couple of the best adaptations that I can think of off hand would have to be the Harry Potter books and The Fault in Our Stars. Now I'm sure there may be others, but I most likely haven't read the books for them yet to be able to compare.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The worst movie-adaptation was Cirque Du Freak (by Darren Shan). I really love Darren Shan's books but the movie was suck... :(
But sometimes the movie better than the book - for example The Perks of Being a Wallflower movie is REALLY cool! Good actors and "better" story.

  67. Harry Potter and the Notebook are some of my favorite books and movies!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Two of the best movie adaptations are the Harry Potter series and the Lord of the Rings series.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The best was hmm am I allowed to count weird adaptations that change things on purpose such as Grimm? If not I liked The Giver even though it wasn't what I pictured.
The worst was probably Beastly for me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think 2 of the best are The Hunger Games and Harry Potter series. They both capture the spirit of the books and were very well cast. Another is LOTR just for the pure cinematography. One I didn't like was Mortal Instruments/City of Bones. The movie just seemed "amateur" compared to the book - not sure how else to describe it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The best are The Lord of The Rings and Pride and Prejudice. The worst is I am Number 4.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Two of the worst were Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (they made a sequel, why?) and The Hobbit.

  75. I've enjoyed lots of movies made from books, including About A Boy with Hugh Grant, and the Lord of the Rings books. I wasn't pleased with the Hobbit because it wasn't like the book in every way.

    ReplyDelete
  76. In my opinion, one of the best was Anne of Green Gables.. Loved both the book and movie. One of the not so great ones was Twilight.. loved the books... just didn't think the movies did them justice
