Discuss! What happened to the swap sites?

I used to love swapping all my Arcs or new release books on sites like YA Book exchange or offering them  at Arcycling, etc but in the past 6 months they are gone.  There is a goodreads swap group but that seems fairly inactive as well and is only for arcs not yet released.

Did you ever use these sites, or others similar?  What are you now doing with your Arcs?   I am not sure what to do with mine.  I could do a giveaway (which I do once in awhile) but cannot usually afford international shipping so I usually feel bad for those of you who aren't in the US for these.  Plus trades are a great way to get a few titles I haven't read.

Any ideas on what to do or what you wish the community would have?  Is there anything actively running that does something with Arcs, nor newer released titles that you know of?

  1. Since you brought it up, maybe you should look into starting one. How hard ca it be really? If there is need for this, why not fill it?

    1. don't have the skills to create original widgets or headers, let alone the skills to get a proper swap site. For it to run smoothly, one would have to be quite tech savvy which I am not. So very hard is the answer. Plus I don;t have the time. Nor do i know how much of a need there is. Maybe I one of just a few who is looking for this.

    2. but if I was more tech savvy and had more time I might have looked into the idea :)

  2. There's a twitter hastag #booksfortade that I think is pretty popular lately. I haven't used it myself, but I've heard of a lot of people that have. You do have to be careful though because I've heard some people have gotten scammed. It's something to look into if you're interested!

  3. I agree! I loved sites like YA book exchange! I'm not sure what you can do with your ARCs but maybe someone will start a new site! I have just two more arcs I need to complete my collection and I wish that there was a site where it was easier to trade on!

  4. I completely agree! I used YA Book Exchange all the time and was so bummed when they closed it. I'm on two different groups on Goodreads - but like you mentioned, it seems like people are only looking for unreleased titles. I've been looking on Twitter at the #booksfortrade - but it's too hard to keep up with and I've heard about people getting cheated out of books. I think you're totally right about needing something for this! I literally have hundreds of books - a mix of ARCs and FCs - and nothing to do with them. And have you noticed that there isn't one place to sell your FCs? I understand that some people don't get ARCs or whatever and would be fine with buying them off of bloggers for a decent price. Why aren't there any sites like that either? I'm not sure what to do - I already have hundreds of books and now I don't know what to do with them. Especially the ARCs - I don't want to just throw them away or anything. I've tinkered with the idea of trying to start a site like the YA Exchange, but - like you said - I don't know if there are enough people interested or if it would be a waste of time.

  5. I've been using #booksfortrade. I have traded twice and both were good experiences. I know that people are pretty good about letting you know who is/isn't doing what they should within the tag.

I know that someone in that tag made a forum for trading, but I haven't tried that. The link is usually posted in the tag, and I think they have an actual twitter account with the display name #booksfortrade.

  6. I've actually thought about making a site - or just a group of people wanting to trade OFF twitter. If you want help - I am all for it

  7. I was just wondering about this. I don't want to sell ARCs -- authors don't get royalties for them and it's actually not cool with the publishers to do that. But I would like to trade them with other bloggers who might review them. A good trading site would be great, not sure about using Twitter...

  8. #Booksfortrade on twitter is another great option! Or simply find a fellow blogger near you and trade with them.

  9. Looks like most people already mentioned #BooksForTrade - that's the only avenue available right now, it seems. I'm sad to see YA Book Exchange go away too - it seemed better organized than just a twitter hashtag. I little part of me thinks maybe I should try to start a replacement for YA Book Exchange, but I'm not sure I could manage it. Hmmm ....

  10. Besides the other suggestions, if you don't feel like giving away to your blog readers, have you considered donating to your local library? Or is there some sort of rule against that when you receive them?
