It sounds like the perfect job, but for Logan any job will do, because he needs one desperately. Told he will be helping to display a unique collection, it isn’t until Logan gets the job that he finds out exactly what he has signed up for. The unique collection is actually a group of supernatural creatures. And to display them, he will have to fight them in an arena for the entertainment of the rich.

Logan thinks it must be a hoax, but when he reaches the estate where he is to work and live, he finds out all he was told is true. Werewolves, vampires and zombies exist, and one day he will have to fight them.

Penny seems to have it all. Not only is she the adopted daughter of Logan’s billionaire employer, but she also has the ability to read minds and see the future. Logan and Penny quickly form a friendship, but they have obstacles to overcome to make it work. Like the fact that Penny knows everything Logan’s thinking.

But Logan’s thoughts aren’t the only thing Penny knows.

Into the Night is a young adult paranormal fantasy novel, suitable for readers 16+. It is the first in a series.

Why I want to read this:  This was an opportunity presented by a  reading group I belong to.  This looks like it will a a fun paranormal read, which I almost always enjoy.

Then Came the Evening: A Novel

Summary: A riveting, psychologically rich family drama set in the American West, from a writer who has been compared to Cormac McCarthy.

Bandy Dorner, home from Vietnam, awakes with his car mired in a canal, his cabin reduced to ashes, and his pregnant wife preparing to leave town with her lover. Within moments, a cop lies bleeding on the road.

Eighteen years later, Bandy is released from prison. His parents are gone, but on the derelict family ranch, Bandy faces a different reunion. Tracy, his now teenaged son, has come to claim the father he’s never known. Iona, Bandy’s ex-wife, has returned on the heels of her son. All three are damaged, hardened, haunted. But warily, desperately, they move in a slow dance around each other, trying to piece back together a family that never was; trying to discover if they belong together at all.

With unflinching honesty and restrained beauty, Brian Hart explores the possibilities and limitations of his characters as they struggle toward a shared future. Like a traditional Greek tragedy, suffused with the mud, ice, and rock of the raw I daho landscape, Then Came the Evening is tautly plotted and emotionally complex—a stunning debut.

Why I want to read this: A good psychological drama is sometimes good for the soul.  A nice change of pace from the everyday reading norm.  This was a goodreads giveaway win as well that I am, sadly, behind on reading due to moving.

And finally...

Origins (The Vampire Diaries: Stefan's Diaries, #1)

Summary: A love triangle that will span eternity…

The year is 1864 and the Civil War rages on. But seventeen-year-old Stefan Salvatore is fighting a battle all his own. Engaged to marry someone he does not love, Stefan falls for a mysterious girl named Katherine. With her gleaming curls and mischievous brown eyes, Katherine is beautiful and seduction…but she also harbors a dark secret: She’s a vampire.

Based on the popular CW TV show inspired by the bestselling novels, Stefan’s Diaries reveals what really happened between Stefan, Damon, and Katherine—and how the Vampire Diaries love triangle began.

(Note: This book is written by a ghostwriter)

Why I want to read this:  So far the Vampire Diaries has been lots of fun to read.  So now, it is time to read a prequel to it all....

Well that sums it up for this weekend.  As always, feel free to discuss any of these books with me, or suggest future weekly shows.   I wish everyone a week of joyful reads!

The Golem's Eye

The Golem's Eye (Bartimaeus, #2)
The Bartimaeus Trilogy: The Golem's Eye (2)

At only fourteen, Nathaniel is a rising star: a young magician who is quickly climbing the ranks of the government. There is seemingly nothing he cannot handle, until he is asked to deal with the growing Resistance movement, which is disrupting London life with its thefts and raids. It’s no easy task: the ringleader Kitty and her friends remain elusive, and Nathaniel’s job-and perhaps his life-are soon at risk. As the pressure mounts, he is distracted by a new series of terrifying attacks in the capital. But is it the Resistance again, or something more dangerous still? To uncover the perpetrators, Nathanial must take desperate measures: a journey to the enemy city of Prague and-worse-summoning once again the troublesome, enigmatic, and quick – witted djinni Bartimaeus.

A thrilling sequel to the best-selling Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem’s Eye is a roller-coaster ride of magic, adventure, and political skullduggery, in which the fates of Nathaniel, Bartimaeus, and Kitty explosively collide.

So, from last weekend, I read 2/3 books.  I am currently reading the third.

Again- this is a weekly blog post that will share 3 books I have on my to-read list.  My goal is to read, or at least start, one  or more of them between today and the following Friday.  Books may be fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels or anything else that might by fun or interesting to read.  Feel free to join me in any of them, discuss them, suggest future reads, etc.

This next week is going to be a bit busy for me so I will be taking it a bit easy on my reading choices.

 Uprising (The Vampire Federation, #1)
Vampire Federation Uprising

A tough job made tougher when the Federation comes under attack by traditionalist vampires. They have a stake in old-school terror-and in an uprising as violent as it is widespread.

Now it's plunging Alex and Joel into a deadly war between the living and the unloving-and against a horrifying tradition given new life by the blood of the innocent.

Why I want to read this:  Actually, I already started this quite a while ago but misplaced it while movingSo now I need to re-read parts of it and get back on track!  So are it is an interesting concept that kind of reminds me of the movie Blade.  I am curious to see and learn more.

Ravine Volume 1 Tp
Ravine Vol 1

The forces of an entire city, Paladia, will rise to oppose him, but his greatest foes will be a ragtag band of an outcast wizard, a dragonrider, and their allies."

Why I want to read this: This looks like a fun graphic novel gifted to me by the published.  I am a fantasy nut so finding a graphic novel like this is great!
