Top Ten Tuesday 17

My Bookish Bucket List!
Bookish things I want, or want to do before I kick it.  Depressing to overthink about but here are some big-life goals I have.   In no particular order.

1)  To Read at least 25,000 books  in my lifetime.
Highly ambitious, I know, but if I live a long, reasonably healthy life and keep my eyesight this might be possible.  Especially counting manga/graphic novels, and reading to the children.  Still, it will take a long time to get there.  My old goal was 100,000.  I figured that was a bit too much so this might be possible

2) To work in a bookstore or library
I always wanted my own bookstore but I would be happy to just work in one even.  Dream job!

3)  To have my own personal library.
I already own a huge amount of books to get started but no where to display them.  Joy of a small home.  But one day, I hope to have my own fancy home library.

4)  To attend a huge book event
Such as BEA, etc.  I have never had the funds (or the time whenever I may have the funds) to do such an event.  Even author signings near where I live (within a couple hour drive) is extremely rare.

5) To get caught up on my TBR list on Goodreads.
Or even get it to a reasonable amount to books added within a few months or so.  Right now, it just keeps getting longer as I am still listing and cataloging all my books.  Not to mention all the new discoveries of books that sound interesting.

6) To finish listing all the books I own
I am trying to catalog all my books on goodreads.  Will around 5000 books it is a lot to undertake but I add a few more each week.  One day it will be done.  This way I can create reading goals easier, stop buying duplicates and more.

7) To read all books by Dean Koontz and Stephen King
Love these two authors.  Very rarely do they disappoint. But there is so much to read that they have done.

8) Finish writing my own book(s)
They may never be published, which is fine, but I want to at least move them onto the written page.  Even if it is just for myself.  One idea I have had has been swimming in my head for over 10 years.  Twice I have worked on in and twice my writing has been thwarted (once by an ex and once due to a roommate taking my busted comp to the dump before I could pull the files onto a backup drive).   For a few years I gave up but lately I have been wanting to try again.

9)  Pay someone to create an amazing layout for this blog and to help me better organize it.
Funds keep getting in the way of this.  I see so many amazing blog layouts and just wish mine could be one of them.  Of course, when I do so, I will likely be breaking away from Blogger so as to have more freedom to make it spectacular!  On day...

10) Read all the Books in 1001 Children's Books You must read before you grow up.(at least those available in English and do not cost more that $25 in the end)
I am reading various book in here with some kids at the library, and kids in the family, but I plan to continue through the book, even if just for myself, just because I can.  I may not agree all the books are worthy but I will still check them out.  I am excluding books I cannot get for a reasonable price or those I cannot find in English within reasonable means.  I am not going to hunt to the far reaches of the world for some of the obscure titles but I will do my best to read most of them.  If not, I am at least reading about them in the Official 1001 book that lists them.  After all, per the title, I must read them before I "grow up."  Although I am not sure I ever want to! :)

  1. I am very sorry to tell you this - but you might as well give up on your tbr pile...

I have accepted that mine will continue growing. Each day, week, month I add more books then I can possibly read in a lifetime. In 10 lifetimes.

    1. It is most likely the one to never be done. But that is okay. I figured by the time I am on my death bed, my to-read list will be very different. But I dont' fool myself enough to think I can read everything that is out or will be out in my lifetime that I would like to read.

  2. Yeah I wish I could dismantle my TBR pile. I remember the days...vaguely...where I had none. Where I had nothing new to read at all.

    Here's my Tuesday post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I remember as a kid I would save really hard to go buy the occasional book, but most of mine were from the library. But I always had a list of want I wanted to read. :)

    1. My only problem with this is so many books were read in years past I never kept track of so my actual total is higher that what I have tracking.

  4. This is a great list! I need to set a lifetime goal, but I have no idea what number is reasonable. I also need to read all of Dean Koontz and Stephen King's books. And I want to read all the 1001 Children's Books. I found out I can interlibrary loan a lot of the more rare ones.

    1. I love interlibrary loaning. The only thing is I am limited to within my state unless I want to pay for the request (no guarantee to get the book).

  5. I've been considering nm. 9 as well. I mean, I should be able to do the whole coding thing myself, they thought it to me at university, but I hated it even then and can't be bothered to do it on my own.... I also should have included the writing aspect to my list - I have a notebook full of ideas which I should just start working on.

    1. I was never taught any coding. All my computer "skills" are self taught. So it is very beyond me. Hope you find the time to work on some of your ideas you have.

  6. #5 you can accomplish only if you stop adding books to the list and only read from that list. Otherwise I don't think you'll ever catch up. haha. Every week during WOW I always add a few books and there's a lot on my list that I have yet to read. There are just too many books and not enough time to read them all. haha :)

    1. Yea, it is a longshot but by as I get older, my books to read will likely change. Although it tends to increase more than decrease right now. :)

    1. This is why us readers need to stick together. I wish there were other author events like BEA. But the cost to do so is way too high.

  9. Catching up on my Goodreads TBR list is also one of my goals. But it looks impossible!

    1. As long as my read list keeps growing I am happy in the end.

  10. 25,000!? Holy crap! That would be amazing. That's almost a book a day for 75 years... You'd have to finish one just about every day even to keep up. I'm doing good if I get 50/year.

Every now and then I purge my goodreads TBR, keeping it at 20 or less. Of course, I generally use that list as a placeholder for books I'm interested in but don't actually own yet. If I've had it on the list a while but still haven't bought/read it, it'll likely never get read so I purge it. :-)

    Happy reading!

    1. Yep, just over 68 years worth. When I graduated high school it was 100,000. I learned that wasn't going to happen as a working adult. 25,000 MIGHT happen, especially counting books read to kids, etc.

  11. Great list!!! I actually did work in a book store once. B&N. It was a nightmare. SO busy .. nothing like how I thought it would be. I thought I'd be chatting books with people. NO way. The library would be better.

    1. While B&N would be an okay place fore me (I am good with busy) I would prefer a smaller bookstore where you actually get to know the customer and their reading tastes as individuals.

  12. So many of these should be on my to do list too! Can I just steal your list?!?!
Specifically catching up on my TBR and working at a bookstore (or owning one!).

(I actually cataloged all of the books in my classroom library--it takes forever! I haven't gotten to doing my own library yet.)

    1. I cataloged my mangas, working on ya/adult novels. It is a very long process...

  13. I agree with many of these! I need to clean up my TBR pile and finish my own books (I'm at 56,000 words with A LOT left to write).
