Weekend.
This is to share books I have acquired from various sources.
Physical books & ebooks both are
welcome. If its something being sent to me by mail, I will not mention it until I actually
receive it.
So this is continuing off last week. Still playing catch up for Nov-current book additions.

"Indiana, 1818.
Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin,
where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's
bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk
Sickness."
"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.
Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.
When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth
my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a
master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..."
Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe
sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the
White House.
While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a
Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the
forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years.
That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.
Using
the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of
Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true
life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while
revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the
role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation."

secrets of his own that will prove more destructive than Stephanie can

Nine-year-old Zachary sees his family's move as an

"Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.
As
their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are
they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself
to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it
takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent
people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate
realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality
is in jeopardy.
In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating
paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting.
Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding
suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will
leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series."

story of Cinderella, the beautiful child cast out to slave among the
ashes. But what of her stepsisters, the homely pair exiled into ignominy
by the fame of their lovely sibling? What fate befell those untouched
by beauty ... and what curses accompanied Cinderella's looks?
Set against the backdrop of seventeenth-century Holland, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister

from the lowly streets of Haarlem to a strange world of wealth,
artifice, and ambition. Iris's path quickly becomes intertwined with
that of Clara, the mysterious and unnaturally beautiful girl destined to
become her sister. While Clara retreats to the cinders of the family
hearth, Iris seeks out the shadowy secrets of her new household -- and

From Arthas: "Frostmourne. It was
caught in a hovering, jagged chunk of ice, the runes that ran the length
of its blade glowing a cool blue. Below it was a dais of some sort,
standing on a large gently raised mound that was covered in a dusting of
snow. A soft light, coming from somewhere high above where the cavern
was open to daylight, shone down on the runeblade. The icy prison hid
some details of the sword's shape and form, exaggerated others. It was
revealed and concealed at the same time, and all the more tempting, like
a new lover imperfectly glimpsed through a gauzy curtain. Arthas knew
the blade -- it was the selfsame sword he had seen in his dream when he
first arrived. The sword that had not killed Invincible, but that had
brought him back healed and healthy. He'd thought it a good omen then,
but now he knew it was a true sign. This was what he had come to find.
This sword would change everything. Arthas stared raptly at it, his
hands almost physically aching to grasp it, his fingers to wrap
themselves around the hilt, his arms to feel the weapon swinging
smoothly in the blow that would end Mal'Ganis, end the torment he had
visited upon the people of Lordaeron, end this lust for revenge. Drawn,
he stepped forward.
The uncanny elemental spirit drew its icy sword. "Turn away, before it is too late," it intoned. * * *
His
evil is legend. Lord of the undead Scourge, wielder of the runeblade
Frostmourne, and enemy of the free peoples of Azeroth. The Lich King is
an entity of incalculable power and unparalleled malice -- his icy soul
utterly consumed by his plans to destroy all life on the World of
Warcraft.
But it was not always so. Long before his soul was
fused with that of the orc shaman Ner'zhul, the Lich King was Arthas
Menethil, crown prince of Lordaeron and faithful paladin of the Silver
Hand.
When a plague of undeath threatened all that he loved,
Arthas was driven to pursue an ill-fated quest for a runeblade powerful
enough to save his homeland. Yet the object of his search would exact a
heavy price from its new master, beginning a horrifying descent into
damnation. Arthas's path would lead him through the arctic northern
wastes toward the Frozen Throne, where he would face, at long last, the
darkest of destinies."

From The Shattering: "Thrall, wise shaman and the warchief of the Horde, has sensed a disturbing change…
Long
ago, Azeroth’s destructive native elementals raged across the world
until the benevolent titans imprisoned them within the Elemental Plane.
Despite the titans’ intervention, many elementals have ended up back on
Azeroth. Over the ages, shaman like Thrall have communed with these
spirits and, through patience and dedication, learned to soothe roaring
infernos, bring rain to sun-scorched lands, and otherwise temper the
elementals’ ruinous influence on the world of Azeroth.
Now Thrall
has discovered that the elementals no longer heed the shaman’s call.
The link shared with these spirits has grown thin and frayed, as if
Azeroth itself were under great duress. While Thrall seeks answers to
what ails the confused elements, he also wrestles with the orcs’
precarious future as his people face dwindling supplies and growing
hostility with their night elf neighbors.
Meanwhile, King Varian
Wrynn of Stormwind is considering violent action in response to mounting
tensions between the Alliance and the Horde, a hard-line approach that
threatens to alienate those closest to him, including his son, Anduin.
The conflicted young prince has set out to find his own path, but in
doing so, he risks becoming entangled in political instability that is
setting the world on edge.
The fate of Azeroth’s great races is
shrouded in a fog of uncertainty, and the erratic behavior of the
elemental spirits, troubling though it is, may only be the first ominous
warning sign of the cataclysm to come."

From A Sorcerer's Treason: "A World of Magic and Peril
1899,
Sand Island, Wisconsin: Bridget Lederle is a lighthouse keeper on this
stormy, windswept shore of Lake Superior. One cold night she sees a boat
foundering near the island's shoals, and rescues its lone occupant. The
strangely dressed sailor tells her a fantastic tale, of Isavalta, a
world where magic reigns, and where she is-incredibly-destined to play a
key role in a power struggle between the Dowager Empress and her foes.
Isavalta,
where magic can be found in the pattern of knots on a string, the
colors of a dress, or even smoke in the air, beckons to her. Bridget has
the second sight of her family, but the magical land where she will go
with the sailor holds far greater marvels, and terrible perils that even
she cannot see. For she carries secrets within her that even she
doesn't know, secrets that could change the fate of the fabulous magical
world that calls her home . . ."

From Fatal Voyage: "Temperance Brennan hears the news on her car radio. An Air TransSouth
flight has gone down in the mountains of western North Carolina, taking
with it eighty-eight passengers and crew. As a forensic anthropologist
and a member of the regional DMORT team, Tempe rushes to the scene to
assist in body recovery and identification.
Tempe has seen
death many times, working with the medical examiners in North Carolina
and Montreal, but never has tragedy struck with such devastation. She
finds a field of carnage: torsos in trees, limbs strewn amongst bursting
suitcases and smoldering debris. Many of the dead are members of a
university soccer team. Is Tempe’s daughter, Katy, among them?
Frantic
with worry, Tempe joins colleagues from the FBI, the NTSB, and other
agencies to search for explanations. Was the plane brought down by a
bomb, an insurance plot, a political assassination, or simple mechanical
failure? And what about the prisoner on the plane who was being
extradited to Canada? Did someone want him silenced forever?
Even
more puzzling for Tempe is a disembodied foot found near the debris
field. Tempe’s microscopic analysis suggests it could not have belonged
to any passenger. Whose foot is it, and where is the rest of the body?
And what about the disturbing evidence Tempe discovers in the soil
outside a remote mountain enclave? What secrets lie hidden there, and
why are certain people eager to stop Tempe’s investigation? Is she
learning too much? Coming too close?
With help from Montreal
detective Andrew Ryan, who has his own sad reason for being at the
crash, and from a very special dog named Boyd, Tempe calls upon deep
reserves of courage and upon her forensic skill to uncover a shocking,
multilayered tale of deceit and depravity.
Written with the riveting authenticity that only world-class forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs can provide, Fatal Voyage pairs witty, elegant prose with pulse-pounding storytelling in a tour de force worthy of crime writing’s new superstar."

From Grave Secrets: "It was a summer morning
in 1982 when soldiers ravaged the village of Chupan Ya, raping and
killing women and children. Twenty-three victims are said to lie in the
well where, twenty years later, Dr. Temperance Brennan and a team from
the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation now dig. No records were
kept. To their families, the dead are "the disappeared."Forensic
anthropologist for the medical examiners in North Carolina and Montreal,
Tempe is in Guatemala for a month's service to help some families
identify and bury their dead. She digs in a cold, damp pit where she
finds a hair clip, a fragment of cloth, a tiny sneaker. Her trowel
touches something hard: the hip of a child no more than two years old.
It's
heartbreaking work. Something savage happened here twenty years ago.
The violence continues today. The team is packing up for the day when an
urgent satellite call comes in. Two colleagues are under attack. Shots
ring out, and Tempe listens in horror to a woman's screams. Then there
is silence. Dead silence.
With this new violence, everything
changes, both for the team and for Tempe, who's asked by the Guatemalan
police for her expertise on another case. Four privileged young women
have vanished from Guatemala City in recent months. One is the Canadian
ambassador's daughter. Some remains have turned up in a septic tank, and
Tempe unfortunately knows septic tanks.
Teaming with Special
Crimes Investigator Bartolome Galiano, and with Montreal detective
Andrew Ryan, who may have more than just professional reasons to join
her on the case, Tempe soon finds herself in a dangerous web that
stretches far beyond Guatemala's borders. The stakes are huge. As power,
money, greed, and science converge, Tempe must make life-altering
choices.
From cutting-edge science in the lab, where Tempe
studies fetal bones and cat hair DNA, to a chilling en-counter in a
lonely morgue, "Grave Secrets" is powerful, page-turning entertainment
from a crime fiction superstar who combines riveting authenticity with
witty, elegant prose."
