Stacking
the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews, every
Weekend.
This is to share books I have acquired from various sources.
Physical books & ebooks both are
welcome. If its something being sent to me by mail, I will not mention it until I actually
receive it.

Emily is forgotten.
Or is she?
Asher continues to accept his destiny, though he suffers. Gwyn will do anything to protect him, including treachery. And Derek, a demon with no past and only mocking charm as his guise, is planning the biggest coup of all.
And he knows exactly how to begin…

*I advise reading the first book for this summary to make more sense. This is the book I was most excited to get this week. Here is my review of book 1 (Dark Souls) -Jamie
One minute,
twenty-four-year-old Sophie Hansa is in a San Francisco alley trying to
save the life of the aunt she has never known. The next, she finds
herself flung into the warm and salty waters of an unfamiliar world.
Glowing moths fall to the waves around her, and the sleek bodies of
unseen fish glide against her submerged ankles.
Nineteen-year-old Jenny
is more content staring at the night sky than joining her friends on a
night on the town. She’s only known them two months, since classes began
for her second year at university, but she’s already head over heels
with one of her housemates, Dale. Every conversation she’s had with Dale
has ended with her stuttering out an excuse to escape.
The Golden Years Can Be a Killer!
Sheila Bright talks to
the dead including the ghost of her mother who wants to move to
California. Kira Graves can produce money out of thin air. The two of
them, Shape Shifters, Pookas, Lost Boys and more all inhabit the
Crossroads, where good and evil collide.
Do not speak of them. Your words leave a scent. They will come.

One minute,
twenty-four-year-old Sophie Hansa is in a San Francisco alley trying to
save the life of the aunt she has never known. The next, she finds
herself flung into the warm and salty waters of an unfamiliar world.
Glowing moths fall to the waves around her, and the sleek bodies of
unseen fish glide against her submerged ankles.
The world is
Stormwrack, a series of island nations with a variety of cultures and
economies—and a language different from any Sophie has heard.
Sophie
doesn't know it yet, but she has just stepped into the middle of a
political firestorm, and a conspiracy that could destroy a world she has
just discovered… her world, where everyone seems to know who she is,
and where she is forbidden to stay.
But Sophie is stubborn, and
smart, and refuses to be cast adrift by people who don't know her and
yet wish her gone. With the help of a sister she has never known, and a
ship captain who would rather she had never arrived, she must navigate
the shoals of the highly charged politics of Stormwrack, and win the
right to decide for herself whether she stays in this wondrous world . .
. or is doomed to exile.

Then the
first meteor blazes through the night, landing close enough to shake the
house. Suddenly, she’s the one with all the answers, the one her
friends and Dale turn to. Having spent so much time glued to a
telescope, they expect her to know what’s happening. But Jenny’s never
seen a meteor big enough to impact, and certainly never the thing that
rises from the crater.
It’s a man who glows with a light so hot,
everything in its path is disintegrated. Soon after, the night sky is
turned to day, coming alive with hundreds more, all with one mission:
rid Earth of that which is killing her.
Earth has been watched,
and the things watching have decided that the human race’s time is up.
Too much damage has been done, and they have decided that it’s time to
let Earth recover, to start again. The only way they see that happening
is by wiping out the human race.
Jenny knows another way, one
that will save both Earth and humanity. But it isn’t simply a case of
finding the nearest official and explaining everything. No one wants to
listen to a nineteen-year-old and her friends. They must take their idea
directly to the Stars and somehow convince them to listen. But to get
there they first have to survive, and survival comes at a price.

From the wise and mysterious soothsayer with his long grey beard to the deathless necromancer practicing his dark magics in a forgotten dungeon, wizards have captured our imaginations since the earliest days of human storytelling, presenting us with some of our greatest heroes and villains. This book collects the tales of the most interesting, popular, and important spell-casters from history, including such legendary figures as Merlin, Simon Magus, Hermes Trismegistus, Koschei the Deathless, Nicholas Flamel, Dr John Dee, and Johann Georg Faust. Written to appeal to the modern reader, each tale captures the drama, the tragedy, and the wonderment that has ensured that these stories have survived the passing centuries. Each story is also examined in its historical, mythological, and thaumaturgical contexts.

The Golden Years Can Be a Killer!
In
2033, every senior citizen is offered a second chance and a second
career. At 65, John Sinclair, a life-long teacher, faces two choices—a
second career or permanent retirement and early death. The state will
pay for his genetic rehabilitation, university education, and an
extended life span of 160 years. It’s guaranteed! All Sinclair has to do
is to mentor his young apprentice, commit to a new career, and avoid
any dealings with a daft and spiteful school janitor, Fernando Smith.
Like all incredible offers, Sinclair’s new career comes with a toxic
price tag. The question is—is he willing to pay?

Sheila Bright talks to
the dead including the ghost of her mother who wants to move to
California. Kira Graves can produce money out of thin air. The two of
them, Shape Shifters, Pookas, Lost Boys and more all inhabit the
Crossroads, where good and evil collide.
When Kira's family and
everyone else in their carnival are murdered by unearthly creatures
called Grigs, Kira and her constant companion, Jen, flee toward a
half-mythical place of safety called Graves Island, but they fail to
reach it when Kira is drawn through the looking glass to another world.
The planet of the Creators is swiftly deteriorating from a world of
dreams into one of nightmares, and the only way to stop the Empty-Eyed
Man from turning the entire universe into chaos is for Kira to destroy
the tool he most desires, but what she must sacrifice to do so may be
worth more to her than the prize.

themselves and their son. They decided to move to the country to rescue

It has been six months
since their father locked them in the security vault with a promise to
return. But he never came back. With supplies running out and vital life
support systems failing, Jack, Samantha, and Will have no choice but to
ignore their father’s warnings and leave the vault. With no knowledge
of what befell the world outside, or what they might expect once the
door is opened, they find themselves in a world they do not recognize.
Thrust
into the remains of the world they remember, how will they survive on
their own, not knowing what or who else remains amongst the ruins?

Seventeen year old Jade
Sommers life tuned upside down the moment she saw the inch long cut
across her face, heal right before her eyes.
Jade thought she was
going insane, but her boyfriend Aiden Scott knew better. He knew what
she was. And like him, she was born this way.
Now if finding out
that people like her shouldn’t exist was bad enough, Jades best friend
is kidnapped by the psycho who’s terrorised her dreams. With the help of
Aiden, she has to figure out how to saver her, before it’s too late.
But
what Jade doesn’t know, is not everything is what it seems. She is
merely a puppet in a sadistic game to find out what she is truly capable
of – and the game has only just begun.

I told Ivory not to
publish this book. But Ivory never listens to me. For being an elf with
such big ears, her hearing is very bad.
So, now here we both are. You
wanting to read this VERY DARK tale. And me trying to warn you of the
dangers that could happen if you do. You, probably being an ordinary
person and all.
No disrespect to ordinary people. I like them...or
you. But, generally, ordinary people are toxically attracted to things
that are not so healthy for them, like candy, and old broken-down
buildings full of nose hair twisters, and throat gobblers---forgetting
that they should be very afraid of dark, spooky, creepyish sort of
places, until it's too late. Be WARNED that this book, once cracked
opened, will cause the innocent lights in your bedroom to quake and
shiver, and perhaps go out, leaving you in the darkness. So keep a
flashlight, or a glowing, friendly, non-poisonous mushroom nearby, just
in case.
Only brave individuals should dare to read this book. As for
myself, I'm brave. I'm not afraid of the dark. Except for when it's
dark, of course. Ahem.

Tassaa Bareesh, a
matriarch in the Hutt crime cartel, is holding an auction that’s drawing
attention from across the galaxy. Representatives of both the Republic
and the Sith Empire are present, along with a Jedi Padawan sent to
investigate, a disenfranchised trooper drummed out of the Republic’s
elite Blackstar Squad, and a mysterious Mandalorian with a private
agenda. But the Republic’s envoy is not what he seems, the Empire’s
delegate is a ruthless Sith apprentice, the Jedi Padawan is determined
to do the right thing and terrified that he can’t, the trooper hopes to
redeem her reputation, and the Mandalorian is somehow managing to keep
one step ahead of everyone.
None
of these guests—invited or uninvited—have any intention of
participating in the auction. Instead they plan to steal the prize,
which is locked inside an impregnable vault: two burned chunks of an
exploded star cruiser, one of which may hold the key to the wealth of an
entire world.
But the truth about the treasure is dangerous and
deadly. And in the end, Sith and Jedi, Republic and Empire, must do
something they’ve never done before, something that all the agents of
good and evil could never make them do: join together to stop a powerful
threat that could destroy the galaxy.
